The tangelo (C. paradise x C. reticulate) is a hybrid of mandarin and grapefruit. The most cultivated hybrid in Florida is the Orlando tangelo, but Minneola and Seminole tangelos are also popular.
Orlando is one of the earliest maturing tangelos and harvesting usually begins in early November. The fruit is attractive, highly colored, deep orange to almost tangerine red and has thin rinds, which is slightly pebbly but not rough.
The different kinds of tangelo fruits vary considerably in size, shape, color of rind and flesh, flavor and date of maturation.
Tangelos are rich in polyphenols and flavonoids, plant compounds that can have health-protective properties. These compounds are especially prevalent in citrus plants, with more than 4000 polyphenols and 60 flavonoids having been identified.
Tangelo fruit juice
The liquid naturally present in the tissues of fruits is known as fruit juice. To obtain fruit juice, mechanical techniques like squeezing or macerating fresh fruits are employed, excluding the use of heat or solvents. Individuals commonly drink fruit juices due to their perceived health benefits.
