Pomegranate juice

Native from Iran to the Himalayan mountains of northern India, the fruit was cultivated all over the Mediterranean region, Asia, Malaysia, East Indies and tropical Africa.

Pomegranate juice is the most commonly consumed processed product. Commercially, either the whole fruit intact or quartered is pressed to squeeze the juice.

Pomegranate juice may just turn out to be one of the great natural weapon against heart disease. Pomegranates fruit juice extract possesses antioxidant effect, and has therapeutic potential in the prevention and treatment of vascular complications in diabetic patients.

Studies shown that taken daily, pomegranate juice prevented the thickening of arteries.

Research at the University of California confirms that the antioxidant capacity of pomegranate juice is two to three times that of red wine or green tea.

The antioxidant activity was higher in commercial juices extracted from whole pomegranates than in juices obtained from arils only, suggesting that industrial processing extracts some of the hydrolyzes tannins present in the fruit rind.

Pomegranate juice is commonly used in the beverage and liquor industries. Pomegranate juice can be converted into jelly. It is also made into sauce to serve kebab, fish etc, and used as a salad dressing or to marinate meats.
