Mangosteen and anti-allergen activity

The mangosteen fruit contains classes of phytonutrient. Scientific research is ongoing on the fruit mangosteen.

One of the medicinal benefits of mangosteen is anti-allergenic properties. It helps prevention of allergic reactions.

Mangosteen study is reported that it is an anti-inflammatory and antiallergenic agent. Xanthoses modulate IGE, antibody class involved in allergic reactions. Mangosteen fruit is the richest known source of natural xanthone compounds which has tremendous medicinal values.

The xanthones, have been found to have antihistamine properties. Antihistamine activity of mangosteen might be helpful for allergic reaction to skin.

Antihistamines usually exert their effects by blocking histamine at end-organ receptors, are effective in urticaria and allergic rhinitis. Methanolic extracts of α and γ mangostins were reported to show histaminergic and serotonergic receptor blocking action.

Α-mangostin inhibited histamine-induced contractions in a dose-dependent manner with or without cimetidine, an antagonist of the H2-histamine receptor. Also, α-mangostin inhibits contractions mediated by the histamine H1 receptor.

Antihistamines properties of mangosteen make drinking mangosteen juices a good option relieving some symptoms of airborne allergies.
