Aronia Juice

Aronia berries (Aronia melanocarpa) considered one of the richest sources of plant antioxidants, which are said to offer many health-promoting properties. These aronia berries are also known as chokeberries because of their sharp, mouth-drying effect.

Aronia berries look a bit like small cranberries, though they can be red or black, and grow on shrubs throughout the continent. Aronia berries can be eaten fresh on their own or used as an ingredient in foods, such as pies, juices, and tea.

Aronia juice rich in fiber, vitamin C, potassium and powerful antioxidants that may have heart-healthy, immune-boosting, and anticancer properties. Fiber helps prevent digestive problems, slows down glucose absorption, and helps maintain healthy blood sugar levels. Potassium helps regulate cholesterol and blood pressure levels. Anthocyanins help minimize oxidative stress on the brain which may help reduce the risk of neurodegenerative conditions such as Alzheimers and Dementia.

Aronia berries pack high levels of antioxidants. These compounds defend body cells from damage caused by free radicals. A buildup of free radicals can cause oxidative stress, which can lead to chronic conditions, such as heart disease and cancer.

A 2004 study looked at the effects of grape, aronia, and bilberry extracts in preventing the growth of colon cancer. The study found that while all the extracts inhibited the growth of the cancer cells, aronia had the strongest effect (J Agric Food Chem . 2004 Oct 6;52(20):6122-8).

Aronia berries may reduce cancer cell growth in people with certain types of cancer. A 3-month study published in Nutrition Research found that residents of 6 nursing homes found that those who drank either 3 or 5.3 ounces (89 or 156 mL) of aronia berry juice daily experienced 38% and 55% reductions in urinary tract infections, respectively (Nutr Res. 2014 Jun;34(6):518-25).
